Message from Rabbi Cosnowsky
Sukkot begins tonight. Rabbi Cosnowsky reflects on the abundance in her life and how the "...idea of the sukkah, its fragility and its temporal nature" help her appreciate what is really important in life.

Erev Sukkot Service-
at 7:00 PM Tonight!
Tonight the congregation will celebrate the beginning of Sukkot with a joyous service. The observance will include holiday songs, a special story and the shaking of the lulav. Each child should bring a gaily decorated basket of fruit. During the service, the children will be called to the bima to present their baskets. Following the service, the baskets of fruit will be distributed to the needy of our community. After the service, the congregation will gather in the Sukkah for Kiddush immediately followed by sweets in the Stoller-Soreff Social Hall.

Every year we trim the evergreen shrubs around the synagogue to provide some of the branches for our sukkah. We have plenty to share with congregants for your home sukkah. Please call the temple office for branches.

Erev Simchat Torah Service and Consecration,
Wednesday, Oct. 3rd, 7:00 PM
The conclusion and renewal of the annual Torah reading cycle will be celebrated at services on Wednesday, Oct. 3rd at 7:00 PM. The service will include the traditional Hafakot with Torah scrolls, accompanied by singing, dancing and waving flags. During the service, new students in the religious school, kindergarten through second grade, will be consecrated. The consecrants will participate in the service and receive a certificate and a gift in honor of the occasion. Following the service, a special treat will be served.

Communal Torah Reading on Shabbat Beresheet
In honor of renewing the annual reading of the Torah on Shabbat Beresheet, October 5th, we invite members of the congregation to join with the rabbis in reading from the Torah. Each person is asked to read only a few words. If you have a reading knowledge of Hebrew, you should be able to participate in the observance without any difficulty.

If you would like to be a part of our communal Torah reading on Shabbat Beresheet, please speak to one of the rabbis or call the synagogue office at (630) 627-3912.

High Holiday Sermons 5768

Rabbi Bob and Rabbi Cosnowsky each presented thought-provoking sermons on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. On Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Cosnowsky spoke on the need for genetic testing for some "Jewish" diseases and a promise made to a congregant. On Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Bob spoke about the current problems facing immigrants in the United States and why we as Jews need to care about them. On Kol Nidrei,Rabbi Bob spoke about Four Questions to ask ourselves on  Yom Kippur. On Yom Kippur, Rabbi Cosnowsky spoke about lessons we learn from our losses.

Did You Know.....

Sometimes people mistakenly take home the wrong prayer books after the holidays.  Please look at your books and make sure they are yours  If you have one that belongs to someone else, either call that person or bring the book to the synagogue and we will return it to its owner.
