Congregation Etz Chaim will hold it's semi-annual blood drive on Sunday, May 4th from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
 
Talking About Israel with Rabbi Bob
notesOn Thursday, May 8th at 7:30 PM, Rabbi Bob will provide background information on Israel, current situations and current conflicts. This presentation will help you feel more knowledgeable when discussing the topic with friends, neighbors and co-workers.
 
 
 
Spotlight Righteous Gentile, Consul Sugihara,
women eatingOur series of articles on Righteous Gentiles also provided information on the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR). Richard Salomon will speak at our Shabbat Service on May 9th about the Righteous Gentile, Consul Sugihara, who rescued his father.
 

The Social Action committee believes that helping to support needy rescuers is a very worthy way to practice tzedaka   (צדקה).  Donation forms will be available in the lobby from Sunday May 4th through May 11th. Please consider giving your support to JFR.

 

 

Nina Lacey Amir to Speak at Etz Chaim
On Saturday, May 31st, Congregation Etz Chaim welcomes Nina Lacey Amir, a former congregant who has relocated to California, who will speak about prayers and rituals that will bring meaning to your religious practices.
 
Brotherhood Golf Outing

Sign up now for the Brotherhood Golf Outing, which is on Sunday June 8th at Klein Creek Golf Course in Winfield.  We'll start the day with a hot breakfast buffet at 9 AM, and then play a scramble format starting at 10:30 AM.  There will be prizes, trophies, and a raffle too. Please contact Jon Berman if you'd like to sponsor a hole, donate a prize for the raffle or need information.  Have fun and help the Brotherhood support our synagogue.

 
 
Lehrhaus at OSRUI

Lehrhaus is a program for adults interested in lifelong Jewish learning and living. Held at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute, our very own Rabbi Cosnowsky will be leading a 3-night mini-course, July 24-27, 2008 on "The Afterlife from a Jewish Perspective."

Walk for Israel - 2008
walk with israel 2008 The Walk for Israel will take place on May 4th, beginning at McCormick Place. Information about the walk and registration form can be found on the website.
 
YOM YISRAEL - last day of school
On May 18th we will have an all school family program, YOM YISRAEL, Israel Day. Families will come to the synagogue at 9:15 AMfor a morning of learning and fun.There will be 17 different activities going on all morning. Some will be geared to younger children; some will be geared to older children; some will be for the whole family to do together. We will have Israeli dancing, the giant floor map of Israel, food tasting, an archaeological dig, scavenger hunt of facts, snorkeling in Eilat, "wine making", an opportunity to put on some real Dead Sea mud, etc.  A fun and meaningful time will had by all.  Everyone is welcome.
Family Israel Trip - June 2009
In the summer of 2009, Anne is preparing a family trip to Israel. The trip will be 12-14 days full of wonderful sights of Israel.
 
Etz Chaim Represented on NFTY-CAR Regional Board
We want to wish a hearty mazel tov to Seth Hurwitz, who was recently elected as the Religion and Cultural Vice President of the Regional Board of NFTY-CAR (Chicago Area Region). Seth is the son of Philip and Susan Hurwitz. We also wish a mazel tov to Al and Kathy Herbach whose nephew, Jeremy Tecktiel was elected as the President. 
Camp Katan
notesRegistration is now open for Camp Katan. Camp Katan meets at Etz Chaim from July 21st through August 1st and is for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. The hours are 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
