Brotherhood/Sisterhood Shabbat Dinner & Service- Janaury 23 The Brotherhood/Sisterhood Shabbat dinner and service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009. Please join us for a brisket dinner starting at 6:30 PM, followed by 8:15 PM Shabbat service led by members of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood.

Performing Artists For PADS--A Concert
Join us on Saturday, January 31st at 7:30 PM for a remarkable concert at Etz Chaim. Talented musicians & storytellers from the Congregation and the community are donating their services, and all proceeds will go to our PADS shelter program. Some of our artists are professionals, and all of them could be! Babysitting will be available at no extra cost. Tickets are available, $10.00 in advance, but $12 at the door.

Rabbi Bob's "Intro to Bible" Class Rabbi Bob will be teaching an "Introduction to Bible" course at Elmhurst College on Wednesday evenings beginning February 4th through May 13th. Etz Chaim members can audit this class.To read about the class and to sign up, please check the website.

Mah Jongg Cards
Attention all Mah Jongg players: Sisterhood is now taking orders for 2009 Mah Jongg cards. The costs are $7.00 for a standard card and $8.00 for large print. We earned $231.00 for Sisterhood last year! The deadline for getting the order in is January 31st. Please make the checks out to Congregation Etz Chaim Sisterhood. Orders and checks can be mailed to Kathy Herbach or put in the Sisterhood mailbox at the temple. |

A program for the 3rd through 7th graders was held at the beginning of this month. Each child was asked to write down a family "Tradition" to share. In her article, Anne shares some of the children's family "Traditions."

Tzedakah Box to Benefit MAZON
Mazon is an organization that works to stop hunger in our country and across the world. The Social Action Committee has designated all contributions to the Tzedakah box, located in the lobby, to be donated to MAZON for the months of January, February and March.

As Gershom & Bobbie begin their second year in Israel, they are still learning about life in Israel. In their article, they talk about politics, people who make aliyah, their hebrew and their Jewish life in Israel.

OSRUI Awards Etz Chaim
Congregation Etz Chaim was this year's recipient of the 2008 Registration Award. Etz Chaim sent 59 campers to OSRUI which represented the most kids sent to camp from all congregations combined.
