Martin Luther King Day
Program- Sunday, Jan. 20th To further raise our awareness, this
year's Martin Luther King Day program will focus on
immigration, one of the most controversial issues in the
U.S. today. Come hear Mr. Jorge Mújica, who was one
of the lead organizers for the March 10, 2007 protest in
Chicago that drew 300,000 people, speak at Etz Chaim on
Sunday January 20th at 9:30 AM.

in exploring the Jewish view on abortion.

Shabbat Dinner &
Service-Jan.25th
The Brotherhood/Sisterhood Shabbat dinner and
service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008. Please
join us for a roast chicken dinner provided by H.P.
Schmaltz starting at 6:30 PM, followed by Shabbat
service led by members of Sisterhood and Brotherhood at
8:15 PM.

Rabbi Cosnowsky Leads Classes
in February
Rabbi
Cosnowsky will be leading two classes in February. On
February 6th, beginning at 10 AM, she will
discuss "What Makes Music Jewish?" and on February
12th, beginning at 7:15 PM, she will discuss
"Jewish Mindfulness."

Congregational Retreat at
OSRUI - May 2-4, 2008
SAVE THE DATE! Etz Chaim's
Congregational Retreat will be take place beginning on
Friday, May 2nd through Sunday, May 4th at Olin Sang
Ruby Union Institute in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Retreat is for everyone - singles, couples
and families with children. This year's theme will be
"Godlink: Our Connection To The Divine." A wide variety
of topics will be discussed, from Kabbalah,
Art and Music, Tikkun Olam, Family Traditions, Nature
and Messianic Texts. What exactly is
retreat?

Mah Jongg
Cards
Attention all Mah Jongg players:
Sisterhood is still taking orders for 2008 Mah
Jongg cards. The costs are $6.50 for a standard card and
$7.50 for large print. The deadline for sending the

Shiva Boxes Donated for
Congregants to Use Unfortunately, the time will come for each
of us when we will lose a loved one, and for most of us
this will be a very stressful time. There will be so
many things to take care of and do. But now, thanks to
Karen Burstein and Judy Mindel, one part of sitting
shiva will be less stressful. Karen and Judy have
created and donated "shiva boxes."

Sale
The Youth Committee wil
be sponsoring its annual Passover Candy sale. All
proceeds from the candy sale will be used for camp
scholarships.

Special - 10th Graders Organize Mitzvah
Project
The 10th graders are organizing
another Mitzvah project. During January they will be
collecting birthday party supplies that will be donated
to People's Resource Center. There will be a collection
box in the lobby.

Youth Israel
Trip- Read Their Blog
On Sunday, December 23rd
a group of high school students, along with Rabbi
Bob and Rabbi Weinberg, left for a 2-week trip to
Israel. You can see pictures and read some of their
thoughts about the trip.

On Sunday December 16th,
Brotherhood and Sisterhood conducted their annual
joint meeting. During this meeting they had a web
conference call to Gershom and Bobbie Lichtenberg who
had made Aliyah in July.
