This past weekend, we held our annual Scholar-In-Residence program where Dr. Elsie Stern discussed the story of Purim and Esther in great detail. You all know the story of Purim, but do you know the meaning behind Esther's name and who she really was?

48th Annual Purim Service & Carnival Etz Chaim is the Purim capital of the world!This year's Purim service will be held on Thursday, March 20th at 7:00 PM. The Purim carnival, run by our Youth Groups, will be held on Sunday, March 23rd.

B'nai Mitzvah Class of 2008 You are cordially invited to the 2008 Adult B'nai Mitzvah at Shabbat morning services on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:30 A.M. Adult B'nai Mitzvah culminates over a year of study. The adult students learned an entire aliyah from the Torah, learned a line of Haftarah and a section of the Morning prayer service. We are so very proud of the efforts of our students and hope that you will join us to honor them as they become B'nai Mitzvah. Etz Chaim Congregational Seder 2008 This year Etz Chaim's Congregational Seder will be held on Sunday, April 20th at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend our communal celebration of the special holiday.

"To Life!" - 18th Annual Holocaust Education Project The annual Holocaust Education Project at Elmhurst College, now in its 18th year, is an interfaith, interdisciplinary effort to teach the vital lessons of one of humanity's darkest chapters. The program will be held from April 6-10, 2008.

April Book Discussion Questions
In April, the book discussion groups will be discussing "Abraham's Children: Race, Identity, and the DNA of the Chosen People" by Jon Entine. Suggested discussion questions are available on our website. Whether or not you will be attending a discussion session, these questions can help you focus your thoughts as you read the book. The groups will meet on Sunday, April 13th 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM, Tuesday, April 15th 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and Thursday, April 17th 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

Social Action Spotlights Righteous Gentiles
In this week's e-bulletin we learn about Sister Alfonsja, who at the age of 19, headed up an orphanage in Przemysl, Poland. Though she was to only take in Catholic children, you will read how she managed to save many Jewish children from certain death.

Lehrhaus at OSRUI
Lehrhaus is a program for adults interested in lifelong Jewish learning and living. Held at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute, our very own Rabbi Cosnowsky will be leading a 3-night mini-course, July 24-27, 2008 on "The Afterlife from a Jewish Perspective."

Message From Our Educator
Recently, Anne attended the National Association of Temple Educators study program. The program was very inspirational and gave Anne many new ideas to bring to the congregation as well as the religious school. In this article, Anne also focuses on the chug teachers.

Family Israel Trip - June 2009 As winter continues to be a part of our life, Anne is busy thinking about the summer of 2009. She has plans underway for a 12- to 14-day family trip to Israel in late June.

Apachi West Day Camp
Apachi Village West Day Camp will be held at Congregation Beth Shalom from June 16th - July 25th, for boys and girls from age 4 through entering 4th grade. Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:45 PM Monday - Friday.
Apachi is also looking for a few good counselors and staff for camp.

Youth Scholarship Funds Going to camp is one of the most memorable experiences any child can have. There's sports, swimming, learning, singing, praying and being with your friends. To help make this experience happen, each child attending Jewish camp this summer is eligible for one of two scholarships.
