Brotherhood/Sisterhood Shabbat Dinner & Service- Friday, January 23rd
The Brotherhood/Sisterhood Shabbat dinner and service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009. Please join us for a brisket dinner starting at 6:30 PM, followed by 8:15 PM Shabbat service led by members of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood.

Join the Social Action and Adult Education Committees for a very special evening on Saturday, January 24th at 7:00 PM. We will be hosting a special evening with Paul Liptz, a visiting scholar from Israel. Do not miss this incredibly enlightening evening.

Performing Artists For PADS- A Concert,
Saturday, January 31st
Join us on Saturday, January 31st at 7:30 PM for a remarkable concert at Etz Chaim. Talented musicians & storytellers from the congregation and the community are donating their services, and all proceeds will go to our PADS shelter program. Some of our artists are professionals, and all of them could be! Babysitting will be available at no extra cost. Tickets are available, $10.00 in advance, but $12.00 at the door.

Rabbi Bob's "Intro to Bible" Class Rabbi Bob will be teaching an "Introduction to Bible" course at Elmhurst College on Wednesday evenings beginning February 4th through May 13th. Etz Chaim members can audit this class. To read about the class and to sign up, please check the web.

Rabbi Cosnowsky's Spring Class-The Path of Mussar

Mah Jongg Cards
Attention all Mah Jongg players: Sisterhood is now taking orders for 2009 Mah Jongg cards. The costs are $7.00 for a standard card and $8.00 for large print. We earned $231.00 for Sisterhood last year! The deadline for getting the order in is January 31st. Please make the checks out to Congregation Etz Chaim Sisterhood. Orders and checks can be mailed to Kathy Herbach or put in the Sisterhood mailbox at the temple. |
Etz Chaim Presents, "Praying with Lior"-Sunday,January 25th
We are excited to show a wonderful documentary "Praying with Lior" on Sunday, January 25th at 1:00 PM, bring your own lunch at 12:30 PM. The movie is about Lior becoming a Bar Mitzvah. This story is special as Lior has Down Syndrome. The West Suburban Parent Support Group for Down Syndrome has purchased the movie for group showings, and is pleased to join Etz Chaim in sharing this film with the community.

Soup, Bread & Game Night- Saturday, February 7th
What do Mah Jongg, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble have in common? These are some of the games you can play at our annual Soup, Bread and Game Night. The Brotherhood and Sisterhood cordially invite you to join us for a fun-filled evening which begins at 6:30 PM on Saturday February 7th in the Stoller-Soreff Social Hall. Be ready to taste some of the most delicious soups, breads and desserts found in the Western Suburbs.

Sisterhood Ladies Night Out Meeting To Be a Sweet Treat of a Time- Thursday, February 19th
All sisterhood members: Please join us at Ethel's Chocolate Lounge, 28 West Jefferson Ave, in downtown Naperville for unlimited fondue, your choice of beverage (including the best hot cocoa in the Chicago area!), and then choose a gift chocolate to take home. Rabbi Bob to Teach an Israel Course We hear on the news what is happening in Israel, but do we really understand all that is happening? Rabbi Bob will teach, in depth, a three-session class on, March 3rd, April 6th and May 7th at 7:30 PM, concerning the current events in Israel.

The school committee is planning a fun-filled game evening for families on Sunday, February 8th from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Families will have an opportunity to have fun with others while they play board games as well as a big family trivia game, followed by pizza and singing.

A Friend Remembered
A former member of Etz Chaim, Michelle Moses, 21 years old, died tragically on December 20th while on her way home from college. Rachel Wittrig has paid a beautiful tribute to her dear friend.

Summer is just around the corner and so is camp! OSRUI applications are available at the temple or on the OSRUI website. Spaces fill up quickly so get your application in soon! Financial assistance forms are available at the temple or on our website. The Robert Scott Samuels Fund is specifically marked to help our families send children to OSRUI.
Tzedakah Donations to Benefit MAZON Mazon is an organization that works to stop hunger in our country and across the world. The Social Action Committee has designated all contributions to the Tzedakah box, located in the lobby, to be donated to MAZON for the months of January, February and March.
