Upon her return from Israel, Marilyn was happy to see all the activity happening at Etz Chaim. The month of January was very busy with lots of programs and February promises to be just as active.

Performing Artists for PADS- A Concert,
This Saturday, January 31st
BUY YOUR PADS CONCERT TICKETS TODAY. Enjoy a full evening of top notch entertainment this Saturday beginning at 7:30 PM. Talented musicians and storytellers from the congregation and the community are donating their services, and all proceeds will go to our PADS shelter program. Some of our artists are professionals, and all of them could be! Babysitting will be available at no extra cost. Tickets are available, $10.00 in advance, but $12.00 at the door.

Soup, Bread & Game Night- Saturday, Feb. 7th What do Mah Jongg, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble have in common? These are some of the games you can play at our annual Soup, Bread and Game Night. The Brotherhood and Sisterhood cordially invite you to join us for a fun-filled evening which begins at 6:30 PM on Saturday, February 7th in the Stoller-Soreff Social Hall. Be ready to taste some of the most delicious soups, breads and desserts found in the Western Suburbs.

Sisterhood Ladies Night Out Meeting To Be a Treat of a Time- Thursday, Feb. 19th
All Sisterhood members: Please join us at Ethel's Chocolate Lounge, 28 West Jefferson Ave, in downtown Naperville for unlimited fondue, your choice of beverage (including the best hot cocoa in the Chicago area!), and then choose a gift chocolate to take home. Scholar-In-Residence Weekend:
February 27- March 1 This year's Sophie and Jack Edwards Scholar-in-Residence program will feature Dr.Jason Kalman, Assistant Professor of Classical Hebrew Literature and Interpretation at the Cincinnati School of HUC-JIR. His weekend discussion will be, "Why Me? Divine Justice and the Jewish Imagination."

SKIP Auction - Saturday, March 21st
On Saturday, March 21, 2009, the temple will be holding its ninth annual SKIP Auction. SKIP is the Send-a-Kid-to-Israel Partnership. This event is a major fundraiser for us. It is a combination of a live and silent auction. The money raised will be used to fund the temple's contribution to SKIP.

Mah Jongg Cards- Deadline January 31st Attention all Mah Jongg players: All orders for Mah Jongg cards are due by January 31st. The costs are $7.00 for a standard card and $8.00 for large print. We earned $231.00 for Sisterhood last year! Please make the checks out to Congregation Etz Chaim Sisterhood. Orders and checks can be mailed to Kathy Herbach or put in the Sisterhood mailbox at the temple.

Rabbi Bob to Teach an Israel Course We hear on the news what is happening in Israel, but do we really understand all that is happening? Rabbi Bob will teach an in-depth three-session class on March 12th, April 6th and May 7th strating at 7:30 PM, concerning the current events in Israel.

Rabbi Bob's "Intro to Bible" Class Rabbi Bob will be teaching an "Introduction to Bible" course at Elmhurst College on Wednesday evenings beginning February 4th through May 13th. Etz Chaim members can audit this class. To read about the class and to sign up, please check the web.

Rabbi Cosnowsky's Class- The Path of Mussar Rabbi Cosnowsky will be teaching three classes on Mussar, Monday evenings February 16th, March 16th and May 18th from 7:00 -8:00 PM. What is Mussar? Click on the link below to learn what these classes will discuss.

Congregational Retreat- April 24-26 2009
Save the Date! Etz Chaim's Congregational Retreat will take place from Friday to Sunday, April 24-26 at OSRUI in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Retreat is for everyone- singles, couples and families with children. This year's theme will be "Meeting Challenges: Biblical Lessons for Today."

Apachi Camp Presentation
Apachi Day Camp will host an informational meeting for parents to learn about the 2009 camp on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 9:30 AM. We will meet in the santuary following morning assembly. Hear about camp from returning parents and learn about our NEW Apachi Adventure Program for 5th & 6th graders.

With January's inauguration of a new president and the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, and February's celebration of Presidents' Day and Abraham Lincoln's birthday, it seems timely to reflect on famous Jewish Americans whose lives have enriched our nation's history and culture.

Summer is just around the corner and so is camp! OSRUI applications are available at the temple or on the OSRUI website. Spaces fill up quickly so get your application in soon! Financial assistance forms are available at the temple or on our website. The Robert Scott Samuels Fund is specifically marked to help our families send children to OSRUI.
Tzedakah Donations to Benefit MAZON Mazon is an organization that works to stop hunger in our country and across the world. The Social Action Committee has designated all contributions to the Tzedakah box, located in the lobby, to be donated to MAZON for the months of January, February and March.
